What is an Expat?
An expat is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country or culture other than that of the person's upbringing or legal residence.
A more common expat is one who moves from his/her native country or culture to live in a foreign country. An example would be moving from France to Japan or from America to Indonesia.
Another example of an expat would be a person moving within his/her own country; New York City to a Texas farm. The culture within a country can be different (language, dialect, weather, customs, expectations, scenery etc) from the culture of origin. The expat will feel the same feelings of isolation, loneliness, etc.
